For from that point, and after seven days, I will rain upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. And I will wipe away every substance that I have made, from the surface of the earth.”1
  1. 7:4The expression “forty days and forty nights” is often said, incorrectly, to be an expression of an inexact period of time, as if it merely referred to a long time. However, it is very clear from other passages of the Bible which refer to periods of time, some by approximations and other by exact expressions, that a time called ‘days and nights’ indicates an exact period of time.(Conte)
