¶And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.

But Joab did not carry out the full instruction of David: though he positioned Uriah in a place where the enemy soldiers were strongest, he did not fall back and abandon Uriah.
