Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;1

Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in Leb-kamai, a destroying wind.
Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am stirring up against Babylon, And the inhabitants of Leb--My withstanders, A destroying wind,

1 The severe judgement of God against Babylon, in revenge of Israel. 59 Jeremiah delivers the book of this prophecy to Sheraiah, to be cast into Euphrates, in token of the perpetual sinking of Babylon.
Thus says the LORD; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the middle of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;
The Lord has said: See, I will make a wind of destruction come up against Babylon and against those who are living in Chaldaea;
This is what the LORD says: “Behold, I will stir up against Babylon and against the people of Leb-kamai1 the spirit of a destroyer.
- Leb-kamai is a code name for Chaldea, that is, Babylonia.
Thus saith HaShem: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in Leb-kamai,1 a destroying wind.
- That is, The heart of them that rise up against Me. According to ancient tradition, a cypher for Casdim, that is, Chaldea.
Thus hath the LORD said; Behold, I raise up against Babylon and against her inhabitants that rise up against me from the heart, a destroying wind.

Thus says Yahweh: “Look, I am going to stir up against Babylon and against the inhabitants of Leb-qamai a destructive wind.

Thus saith the Lord: Behold I will raise up as it were a pestilential wind against Babylon and against the inhabitants thereof, who have lifted up their heart against me.
