Κάϊν (WH Κάϊν (cf. Ἰ´, ἰ at the end)), ὁ, indeclinable (in Josephus with a Greek ending, Καις, Καιτος; Hebrew קַיִן i. e. a spear, although the author of Genesis,, derives it from קָנָה to produce, beget, acquire, so that it is equivalent to קִנְיָן, Psa 104:24 (cf. B. D. American edition under the word)), Cain, the fratricide, the first-born son of Adam: Heb 11:4; 1Jn 3:12; Jud 1:11.
