στατήρ, στατηρος, ὁ (from ἵστημι, to place in the scales, weigh out (i. e. 'the weigher' (Vanicek, p. 1126))), a stater, a coin; in the N. T. a silver stater equivalent to four Attic or two Alexandrian drachmas, a Jewish shekel (see δίδραχμον): Mat 17:27.
