συκάμινος, -ου, ἡ [in LXX for שִׁקְמָה (pl.) ;] the mulberry tree (Lat. morus; cf. μόρον, 1Ma.6:34 *), the sycamine: Luk.17:6. (In LXX, σ. appears to represent the συκόμορος (see: συκομορέα), but St. Luke distinguishes between the two; see ICC, in l; DB, iv, 634.) † (AS)

συκάμινος, συκαμινου, ἡ, Hebrew שִׁקְמָה (of which only the plural שִׁקְמִים is found in the O. T., 1Ki 10:27; Isa 9:10; Amo 7:14; once שִׁקְמות), a sycamine, a tree having the form and foliage of the mulberry, but fruit resembling the fig (equivalent to συκομορέα, which see (but Tristram, Nat. Hist. of the Bible, 2nd edition, p. 396f; BB. DD., etc., regard the sycamine as the black-mulberry tree, and the sycomore as the fig-mulberry)): Luk 17:6.
