  1. 4 ss. Nínive fue como una ramera, por cuanto sabía atraer a otros pueblos mediante su enorme influencia política, económica y cultural. Por lo cual Yahvé le da el castigo que se-aplica a las rameras. Descubriré las faldas, etc. (versículo 5): Cf. Isaías 47, 2 f.; Jeremías 13, 22 ss.; Oseas 2, 5, etc. Es de notar que en la Sagrada Escritura la fornicación significa el culto de los ídolos; la infidelidad a Dios es sinónimo de adulterio. Este es el único pasaje en que el término se aplica a una ciudad pagana, quizá porque fue también la única convertida por el verdadero Dios con extraordinaria misericordia, como se ve en todo el Libro de Jonás, por lo cual su infidelidad ulterior podía llamarse en realidad apostasía. Compárese sobre Tiro Isaías 23, 16; cf. Ezequiel 16, 29; Oseas capítulos 1-3; Apocalipsis 14, 8; 17, 2; 18, 3; 19, 2.
