And the officer answered: With a great Bum did I purchase this citizenship. And Paul replied: But I was born a citizen.
And the chief captain said, I got Roman rights for myself at a great price. And Paul said, But I had them by birth.
“I paid a high price for my citizenship,” said the commander. “But I was born a citizen,” Paul replied.
And the tribune replied, With a large sum of money I purchased this citizenship. And Paul said, But I enjoy it as my birthright.
And the tribunal answered, With a great sum I obtained this freedom. And Paul said, But I was [free] born.
And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.
And the military tribune replied, “I acquired this citizenship for a large sum of money.” And Paul said, “But I indeed was born a citizen.1
