Only--a vain thing! I have purified my heart, And I wash in innocency my hands,
Certainely I haue clensed mine heart in vaine, and washed mine hands in innocencie.
Truly I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence.
As for me, I have made my heart clean to no purpose, washing my hands in righteousness;
Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure; in innocence I have washed my hands.
Verily, in vain have I cleansed my heart and washed my hands in innocency
Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure, and washed my hands in innocence.
Surely I have purified my heart in vain; and I have washed my hands in innocence.
Surely I have made my heart pure in vain, and washed my hands in innocence.
Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain; In vain have I washed my hands in innocence.
Yes, in vain have I kept my heart pure, and washed my hands in innocence;
Yes, in vain have I kept my heart pure, and washed my hands in innocence;
Altogether in vain, Have I cleansed my heart, And bathed in pureness, my hands;
Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

Thou by thy strength didst make the sea firm: thou didst crush the heads of the dragons in the waters.
In your virtue, you confirmed the sea. You crushed the heads of the serpents in the waters.1
- 73:13The sea firm: By making the waters of the Red Sea stand like firm walls, whilst Israel passed through: and destroying the Egyptians called here dragons from their cruelty, in the same waters, with their king: casting up their bodies on the shore to be stripped by the Ethiopians inhabiting in those days the coast of Arabia.(Challoner)
