σανδάλιον, σανδαλιου, τό (diminutive of σάνδαλον (which is probably a Persian word; cf. Vanicek, Fremdwörter, under the word)), a sandal, a sole made of wood or leather, covering the bottom of the foot and bound on with thongs: Mar 6:9; Act 12:8. (Herodotus, Josephus, Diodorus, Aelian, Herodian, others; for נַעַל in Isa 20:2; Jdt 10:4 Jdt 16:9. (In the Sept. and Josephus σανδάλιον and ὑπόδημα are used indiscriminately; cf.
