  1. 1 ss. Después de los terribles anuncios del capítulo precedente, se inicia aquí el discurso final que abarca hasta 14, 21. Fillion lo llama de la era mesiánica refiriendo la sección 12, 1-13, 6 a “las luchas y el triunfo, la conversión y la santificación de los judíos”, y hace notar que aquí “por Israel debe entenderse toda la nación teocrática después del exilio. Cf. Malaquías 1, 5”. Dios revela en esta profecía que los paganos asaltarán a Jerusalén y que Él mismo la defenderá, haciendo temblar a los asaltantes como si estuviesen ebrios (cf. versículo 9 y nota). Copa de vértigo (véase Isaías 51, 17; Jeremías 49, 12; 51, 7), que embriagará a los pueblos circunvecinos y enemigos que la apuren, y no podrán hacer daño.   1. 8. Toda la salvación vendrá de Dios. El más débil de los habitantes de Jerusalén se mostrará tan fuerte como David que mato a Goliat. Se cumplirán las reiteradas promesas de fortaleza que vimos en todo el capítulo 10. Cf. Ezequiel capítulos 38-39 y notas.   1. 10. La salvación de su ciudad y país impele a los salvados a convertirse y pedir perdón por un crimen que han cometido. La penitencia y el duelo que por ello sufren, es fruto del espíritu de gracia y de oración, o sea, obra de Dios (cf. Ezequiel 11, 19; 36, 26; Joel 2, 28-29; Jeremías 30, 13 y nota). Llenos de vergüenza reconocerán a quien traspasaron y le harán luto en todas las familias. Sin duda se trata aquí del Buen Pastor del capítulo 11, el cual, rechazado por la grey, ingrata, rompió los dos cayados, porque ya no pudo ser su pastor como lo anhelaba su alma. San Juan cita este texto en su Evangelio (19, 37), mostrando de una manera inequívoca que es una profecía de la pasión de Cristo y de la futura conversión de los hijos de Israel, los cuales le entregaron a la crucifixión aunque no fueron los ejecutores materiales de ella (cf. Mateo 27, 27 y nota). En Apocalipsis 1, 7 se usa una expresión semejante a la de esta profecía, y el Nuevo Testamento confirma en muchos pasajes el anuncio de la conversión de Israel (cf. Mateo 23, 39; Números 11, 11-32; II Corintios 3, 16, etc.).

  1. 11 ss. Todo lo que sigue hasta el fin del capítulo son imágenes de un luto nunca visto antes. En la batalla de Megiddó murió el rey Josías (608 a. C). Véase IV Reyes 23, 29 y nota; II Paralipómenos 35, 22-25. El duelo por ese rey piadoso fue el más intenso que la historia de Judá conoce. Por eso se toma aquí como ejemplo e imagen del luto que harán por el Traspasado. A ese lugar refiere el Apocalipsis la gran batalla final de Armagedón (que significa: montaña de Megiddó). Cf. Apocalipsis 16, 16; 17, 14; 19, 19. Hadad Remmón: aldea situada cerca de Megiddó. Según algunos expositores se trataría aquí de otra forma de manifestar el duelo. Así como las mujeres paganas lloraban la muerte del dios Tammuz (o Hadad-Remmón), de la misma manera se hará luto en Israel por la muerte del Traspasado. El profeta describe luego (versículo 12- 14) la universalidad del luto, tomando como ejemplos a dos familias principales: la familia real de David en la línea de Natán, y la familia sacerdotal de Levi, representada por la línea de Semeí. Se mencionan expresamente las mujeres, pues su participación en el luto era de especial importancia.
