Es Yahvé quien hace los relámpagos. En Jeremías 14, 22 se expresa con gran relieve, esta verdad, diciendo que no son los cielos quienes pueden dar la lluvia. Sin perjuicio de este sentido literal, puede verse también aquí una efusión del divino Espíritu como la prometida en 12, 10; Jeremías 31, 33 s.; Éxodo 11, 19; 36, 26; Oseas 6, 3; Joel 2, 23-32. Algunos intérpretes entienden sin embargo que del glorioso futuro que ha descrito, Zacarías vuelve aquí al presente e invita a sus compatriotas a pedir la lluvia que necesitaban. Las lluvias tardías son las del segundo período de lluvias, o sea, las de la primavera, que son indispensables para las sementeras de Palestina.
2 1Porque los terafim hablan vanidad, y las visiones de los adivinos son mentirosas; cuentan sueños falaces, dan consuelos vacíos, por eso andan errantes como ovejas; están afligidos, porque no tienen pastor.

La superstición, según se ve, engaña al pueblo todavía después del cautiverio (cf. Nehemías 6, 10-14; Malaquías 3, 5; II Macabeos 12, 40). No tienen pastor (cf. Malaquías 2, 1 ss.): Cinco siglos más tarde estarán todavía sin pastor, es decir “abatidos y esquilmados”, como dirá Jesús (Mateo 9, 36), y así los vemos aún en su destierro. Véase Oseas 3, 4 s. Según algunos, serían los jefes de los pueblos enemigos (cf. Isaías 14, 9; Jeremías 6, 3-4). Crampón dice: “Pastores: malos jefes de Israel (cf. Jeremías 23, 1 ss.; Ezequiel 34). Machos cabríos: los grandes (cf. Ezequiel 34, 17 ss.).” Él Señor castigará a esos poderosos, como lo vemos en 11, 15 ss. y nota.

De ti: es decir que todos estos maravillosos efectos se harían por obra de Dios. Podría entenderse también que “él” es Judá, y así lo ven algunos citando a Éxodo 17, 6; I Pedro 2, 8; Isaías 22, 23 s.; Ezequiel capítulos 38 s. La piedra angular, símbolo de Jesucristo (Isaías 28, 16; Hechos de los Apóstoles 4, 11; Efesios 2, 20). La estaca o el clavo en que se suspenden los utensilios e instrumentos. Su significado simbólico se ve en Isaías 22, 23-24, donde es figura del poder y la autoridad. El arco se toma en la Biblia como símbolo de la fuerza (Salmo 44, 6). Todos los jefes juntos (Vulgata: exactores): los que oprimirán a los paganos y librarán a la nación santa (cf. Salmo 17, 43; Miqueas 7, 10). 5 Y serán como héroes que huellan en el combate (a los enemigos) como si fuesen barro de las calles. Pelearán porque Yahvé está con ellos; y quedarán confundidos los que montan en caballos.

La casa de José , lo mismo que Efraím (y. 7), significa el reino de las diez tribus, llamado de Israel. También esas tribus participarán en la liberación de Judá por Dios (cf. 8, 13; 11, 14 y notas). Y serán cual si no los hubiese desechado, es decir, como en los días de su apogeo nacional. 7 Los de Efraím serán como héroes, y estará alegre su corazón como de vino; al verlo sus hijos se regocijarán, y se gozará su corazón en Yahvé.

8 1Los llamaré con un silbido, y los congregaré; porque los he rescatado, y se multiplicarán como antes se multiplicaron.

De todas partes regresarán las dispersas ovejas de Israel. Con un silbido: cf. Isaías 5, 26; 7, 18. Egipto y Asiria (versículo 10), figuran como tipos de los opresores (cf. Isaías II, 11-16; Oseas 8, 13 y 9, 3). Galaad y el Líbano representan el Este y Norte de Palestina, es decir, Transjordania y parte de Siria. De ahí que el sionismo judío aspire también a la posesión de estos territorios.
9 Los he dispersado, sí, entre los pueblos, pero aun en (países) lejanos se acordarán de Mí; y vivirán juntamente con sus hijos, y volverán.
