1. time of an event, etc.:
  a. usually (213 t.) with preposition: with בְּ (142 t.), especially הַהִוא ׳בָּע Gen 21:22 (E) in that time, Gen 38:1 (J), Num 22:4 (E), Deut 1:9 + 14 t. Deuteronomy; הַהִיא ׳בָּע Josh 5:2; Amos 5:13; Dan 12:1 (twice in verse). + (69 t., not in P); הַזּאֹת ׳בָּע Esth 4:14, בָּעִתִּים הָהֵם 2Chr 15:5; Dan 11:14 בְּכָלעֵֿת at all times Exod 18:22; Exod 18:26 (E), Lev 16:2 (P) Ps 34:2 +; = continually Prov 8:30, בְּכָלעֵֿת אֲשֶׁר Esth 5:13 as long as I see Mordecai; with לְ (31 t.; compare ל 6, p. 516 above), 2Sam 11:1 + at the time, but Ezek 12:27 for distant times, compare לְעֵת כָּזֹאת Esth 4:14, etc.; with כְּ (21 t.; compare כ 1 a, p. 453 above), הַזּאֹת ׳מָחָר כָּע Josh 11:6 (JE) tomorrow about this time, usually מָחָר ׳כָּע (Kö^{Synt. 401 o}) Exod 9:18 (J), 1Sam 9:16 (compare Dr), 1Sam 20:12; 1Kgs 19:2; 1Kgs 20:6; 2Kgs 7:1; 2Kgs 7:18; 2Kgs 10:6 ; כָּעֵת חַיָה; כָּעֵת הָרִאשׁוֺן Isa 8:23 at the former time; כָּעֵת alone Num 23:23 (JE) at this time = now (probably, compare Di), Judg 13:23; Judg 21:22 , etc.; with מִן (8 t.), מִן הָעֵת הַהִא Neh 13:21, etc.; with עַד (12 t.), הַהִיא ׳עַדהָֿע Neh 6:1 up to that time, מֵעֵת עַדעֵֿת Ezek 4:10; Ezek 4:11 etc. (5 t.   c. followed by infinitive בּוֺא הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ ׳לְע Josh 10:27 (JE), 2Chr 18:34, קָרְאָם ׳בְּע Jer 11:14a (read בְּעֵת also v^b, Gie), etc.
  d. followed by clause with finite verb (in poetry or late) Deut 32:35; Job 6:17; 2Chr 20:22; 2Chr 24:11; 2Chr 29:27 + (compare 2 c).

2. a. = usual time: צֵאת ׳לְע 2Sam 11:1 at time of kings' going forth = 1Chr 20:1 בְּעֵת יַחֵם Gen 31:10 עֵת לֶדֶת Job 39:1; Job 39:2.
  b. proper, suitable time: rain בְּעִתּוֺ Deut 11:14; Jer 5:24 +, compare Lev 26:4 (H), also Ps 1:3; Ps 104:27; Ps 145:15; Prov 15:23; Isa 60:22; Eccl 3:11 עֵת מִלְחָמָה vEccl 3:8 שָׁלוֺם ׳ע vEccl 3:8 followed by infinitive Hos 10:12, הַעֵת לָקַחַת 2Kgs 5:26 is it a time to take money? Hag 1:4, עֶתבֵּֿית לְהִבָּנוֺת ׳י vHag 1:2 (v:a read עַתָּ בָּא Hi We Now and others); עֵת לַעֲשׂוֺת Ps 119:126, compare Eccl 3:2-8 (26 t.); absolute כִּי עֵת Hos 13:13 (Hi We and others; Gu^{Kau gives} עַתָּ; > Now כָּעֵת); absolute with negative Job 22:16; Eccl 7:17 hence (late) יוֺדְעֵי בִינָה לָעִתִּים 1Chr 12:32, יִדְעֵי הָעִתִּים Esth 1:13 i.e. astrologers, etc.
  c. appointed time, ׳בְּעֵת תֵּת וגו 1Sam 18:19 at the appointed time of giving, Ezek 7:7; Ezek 7:12; Isa 13:22, פְּקֻדָּתָם ׳ע Jer 8:12; Jer 10:15 = Jer 51:18; Jer 46:21; Jer 50:27 compare (with finite verb) Jer 6:15; Jer 49:8; Jer 50:31, אַרְצוֺ ׳ע Jer 27:7, גּוֺיִם ׳ע Ezek 30:3,לְעִתִּים מְזֻמָּנִים Ezra 10:14; Neh 10:35 compareNeh 13:31 מוֺעֵד ׳עַדעֿ 2Sam 24:15; Ps 103:14 (|| מוֺעֵד), etc.; compare עֵת וּמִשְׁפָּט Eccl 8:5; Eccl 8:6 (for time of judgment),עִתּוֺ Eccl 9:12 especially לְעֵת קֵץ Dan 8:7 compare Dan 11:35; Dan 11:40; Dan 12:4; Dan 12:9, עֲוֺן קֵץ ׳כְּע Ezek 21:30; Ezek 21:34 compare Ezek 35:5 לְקֵץ הָעִתִּים Dan 11:13.
  d. as uncertain עֵת וָפֶגַע Eccl 9:11.

3. = experiences, fortunes, plural אֱמוּנַת עִתֶּיךָ Isa 33:6; Ps 31:16 הָעִתִּים אֲשֶׁר עָֽבְרוּ עָלָיו 1Chr 29:30

4. occurrence, occasions (= פַּעַם), רַבּוֺת עִתִּים Neh 9:28 great numbers of times (= very often).
