1. in Greek authors "service rendered for hire; then any service or ministration (Tragg., Plutarch, Lucian); the service of God": τοῦ Θεοῦ, Plato, Apology 23 b.; καταφυγεῖν πρός θεῶν εὐχάς τέ καί λατρείας, ibid.
