διάνοια, διανοίας, ἡ (διά and νως), the Sept. for לֵב and לֵבָב; very frequent in Greek writings from (Aeschylus) Herodotus down;

1. the mind as the faculty qf understanding, feeling, desiring: Mat 22:37; Mar 12:30 (Tr marginal reading brackets); Luk 10:27; Eph 1:18 Rec.;; Heb 8:10; Heb 10:16; 1Pe 1:13.

2. understanding: 1Jn 5:20.

3. mind, i. e. spirit (Latinanimus), way of thinking and feeling: Col 1:21; Luk 1:51; 2Pe 3:1.
