Agua de la roca
1 Partió todo el pueblo de los hijos de Israel del desierto de Sin, haciendo sus jornadas según ordenaba Yahvé; y acamparon en Rafidim, donde el pueblo no tenía agua que beber.

En la roca de la cual Moisés sacaba el agua ve San Pablo a Jesucristo (I Corintios 10, 3 s.). Nada más bello que descubrir en el Antiguo Testamento esta actividad anticipada del Mesías, de la cual hemos visto un ejemplo en 13, 21 y nota. “Ante la vista de los antiguos cristianos el Señor glorificado se presentaba como el Redentor, el conductor del nuevo pueblo, la Roca del desierto, aparecida ahora en la carne, de la que brota el Agua viva, en cuyas onda beben, con alegría, los cristianos. Es el Cristo que hace brotar de su corazón las fuentes vivificadoras, el Espíritu Santo, el Espíritu que nos hace partícipes de la filiación” (Rahner). “Del pecho de la Roca, dice Orígenes, desciende el Agua del Espíritu. Del costado traspasado del Crucificado, como otrora de la Roca de Moisés, nace un manantial. La roca fue golpeada y dio una fuente de agua: golpeado el costado del Señor, desde la Cruz, dejó brotar los torrentes del Nuevo Testamento... Y si el Señor no hubiese sido traspasado, si no hubiesen brotado de su costado sangre y agua, todos sufriríamos aún la sed del Logos de Dios”.
7 1Y dio a aquel lugar el nombre de Masá y Meribá, a causa de la querella de los hijos de Israel, y por haber ellos tentado a Yahvé, diciendo: “¿Está Yahvé en medio de nosotros, o no?”

Masá , significa tentación; Meribá, querella o contradicción. Así se llama aquel lugar a causa de la murmuración del pueblo. Entre tanto quedó confiado a la memoria de sus discípulos, hasta que más tarde, cuando comenzó a extinguirse aquella primera generación, se vio la necesidad de fijarlo por escrito.
