  1. 4. Los rapó: les hizo raer la cabeza y la barba. Se consideraba la barba como un importante ornato corporal que distinguía al hombre de la mujer, y al libre del esclavo; de ahí que su pérdida se reputase como un deshonor. Por esto Isaías (7, 20) para anunciar a los judíos la terrible derrota que les han de hacer sufrir los asirios, les dice que serán raídas sus cabezas y sus barbas. Solo en las grandes calamidades solían los hebreos raer o mesarse las barbas para significar el extremo dolor, ante el cual nada valían las cosas más estimadas Cf. Jeremías 41, 5; Esdras 9, 3” (Schuster-Holzammer).
