Matrimonio con una adúltera

Una mujer: tal vez la misma que tenía ya antes (capítulo 1), según creen no pocos expositores. De esta manera el profeta sería figura de Dios que vuelve sin repugnancia a su esposa infiel, el pueblo de Israel, a pesar de las infidelidades de la misma. Véase Ezequiel 16, 55 y nota. También puede tratarse de otra mujer, igualmente depravada: una prueba más para el fiel profeta, que en su persona tiene que representar la posición de su pueblo para con Dios. Véase 1, 2 y nota. Es de notar que Dios se dirige aquí al reino de Israel, o sea, de las diez tribus del Norte, sobre cuyo misterioso destino carecemos de toda noticia desde su cautiverio en Asiria (cf. Esdras 1, 2 y nota). Sin embargo, los profetas hablan de su vuelta (Isaías 11, 14 ss.).

El sentido es: Israel quedará por mucho tiempo sin independencia política y también sin culto y sin oráculos. Massebah: Así se llamaban las piedras erigidas en honor de Baal. Efod era nombre de una prenda, en la cual el Sumo Sacerdote llevaba sobre el pecho los Urim y Tummim, que servían para averiguar la voluntad divina (Éxodo 28, 6 ss.). Israel quedará, por consiguiente, sin dirección divina. Terafines se llamaban los dioses domésticos. Véase Génesis 31, 19 y nota; I Reyes 19, 13 y nota. El profeta no cree en dichos ídolos, pero menciona la privación de ellos, haciendo ver que esta desolación apartará a Israel de la idolatría (Knabenbauer).
5 1Pero después se convertirán los hijos de Israel, y buscarán a Yahvé, su Dios, y a David, su rey; y con temblor (acudirán) a Yahvé y a su bondad al fin de los tiempos.

David, el rey al cual están buscando, es el Mesías, descendiente de David (Ezequiel 37, 24 s.). Hay unanimidad entre los exégetas sobre el sentido de esta profecía. Todos la refieren al pueblo de Israel que un día, habiendo recibido “el doble por todos sus pecados” (Isaías 40, 2), volverá “con una voluntad diez veces mayor” (Baruc 4, 28 y nota), mirará y admirará al Redentor (Juan 19, 37; Zacarías 12, 10; Mateo 23, 39; Romanos 11, 25 s., etc.), cosa que ocurrirá “en la postrimería de los días” (Scío).
