Como un inmenso claroscuro en la vida de este amigo de Dios, el pecado de David es un verdadero abismo de iniquidad. Empieza la pasión como el incendio, por una chispa, una sola mirada (versículo 2), y va agravándose a cada instante, hasta terminar en la vileza del adulterio, osando como parapeto el homicidio. “¡Lascivia amasada con sangre!” Lo que más sorprende es que David olvidase de pedir el auxilio del Señor en la tentación, siendo que toda su vida era un tejido de las maravillas obradas en él por la divina gracia. Como Sansón, más fuerte que un león, se enmolleció en los brazos de Dalila, así “David, varón escogido según el corazón del Señor, que con boca santa tantas veces había cantado a Cristo venidero, cayó cautivo de la belleza desnuda de Betsabee mientras se paseaba por el terrado de su palacio, y añadió al crimen del adulterio el otro del homicidio. Notad aquí brevemente que no hay lugar seguro ni siquiera en la propia casa, y que una sola mirada basta para arruinarnos” (San Jerónimo en la Carta a Eustaquia). La conducta fidelísima de Urías nos sirva de contraste, el más elocuente para medir la insondable caída de David. Mas no nos desanimemos. Esperemos el siguiente acto de este drama, y veremos las alturas adonde Dios eleva nuevamente por medio de la contrición del corazón, a este su amigo que no supo mantenerse por la inocencia. Lección infinitamente consoladora, que nos muestra cómo nuestro Padre posee el secreto de convertir el mal en bien para los que aceptan ser sus hijos. “Todas las cosas cooperan en bien de los que aman a Dios”, dice San Pablo (Romanos 8, 28), y San Agustín añade: “hasta los pecados”.
