ἀληθής, (ές (alpha privative and λήθω, λαθεῖν (λανθάνω), τό λῆθος — cf. ἀμαθής; literally, not hidden, unconcealed) (from Homer down);

1. true: Joh 4:18; Joh 10:41; Joh 19:35; 1Jn 2:8; 1Jn 2:27; Act 12:9 (an actual occurrence, opposed to ὅραμα), Php 4:8; μαρτυρία, Joh 5:31; John 8:13f, 17; Joh 21:24; 3Jn 1:12; Tit 1:13; κρίσις, just, Joh 8:16 (L T Tr WH ἀληθινή); παροιμία, 2Pe 2:22; χάρις, grace which can be trusted, 1Pe 5:12.

2. loving the truth, speaking the truth, truthful: Mat 22:16; Mar 12:14; Joh 7:18; 2Co 6:8 (opposed to πλάνος); of God, Joh 3:33; Joh 8:26; Rom 3:4 (opposed to ψεύστης).
