Fig., ὡς κ. ἐν νυκτί, 1Th.5:2 5:4 (κλέπτας, WH, txt., R, mg.; see Lft., Notes, 73; but cf. also M, Th., l.with), 2Pe.3:10, Rev.3:3 16:15. κλέπτης, κλέπτου, ὁ (κλέπτω) (from Homer down), the Sept. for גַּנָּב, a thief: Mat 6:19; Mat 24:43; Luk 12:33; Luk 12:39; Joh 10:1; Joh 10:10; 1Co 6:10; 1Pe 4:15; an embezzler, pilferer, Joh 12:6; ἔρχεσθαι or ἥκειν... ὡς κλέπτης ἐν νυκτί, equivalent to to come unexpectedly, 1Th 5:2; 1Th 5:4; 2Pe 3:10; Rev 3:3; Rev 16:15; the name is transferred to false teachers, who do not care to instruct men, but abuse their confidence for their own gain, Joh 10:8.
