  1. 2. La leona es imagen de la casa de David. EI reino de Judá es comparado a un león (cf. 21, 27 y nota) que se echa entre los leones, es decir que quiere asemejarse a los pueblos paganos, con los cuales le fue muy mal. En efecto, el primer leoncillo (versículo 3), Joacaz, rey de Judá, fue llevado cautivo a Egipto por el Faraón Necao (véase IV Reyes 23, 34). El segundo (versículo 5) es el rey Joaquín o Jeconías, el que fue desterrado a Babilonia en 597 a. C. Véase IV Reyes 24, 15; Mateo 1, 11. Cf. Zacarías 11, 3 y nota.

  1. 14. Y no le queda rama fuerte: Sedecías habrá de ser el último rey de Judá. De ahí el llanto elegiaco de este capítulo. Llora el profeta la caída del cetro glorioso de David, por fuego de sus propias ramas, es decir, por culpa del mismo rey desobediente a Dios (IV Reyes 24, 20). Tal es la gloria que el Mesías, heredero legal de Jeconías (Mateo 1, 11), debía restaurar para toda la “casa de Jacob” (Lucas 1, 32 s.; Hechos 15, 16) y que esperaban los que lo aclamaron en Marcos 11, 10, etc., ignorando lo que el Señor haría constar claramente en Lucas 24, 21-27 y 44 s.
