Profecía contra Tiro

Entre los que aplaudieron la ruina de Jerusalén se hallaba también Tiro, importantísima ciudad de comercio que veía en Jerusalén la más fuerte competidora. Tres capítulos dedica el profeta aquí contra ella. (Isaías el capítulo 23, último de sus oráculos contra los gentiles, cf. Isaías 23, 11 y nota.) La Escritura menciona a Tiro como ciudad fuerte desde Josué 19, 29; II Reyes 24, 7 hasta Zacarías 9, 2 s. y la cita muchas veces (III Reyes 5, 1; II Paralipómenos 2, 3; Mateo 11, 22; 15, 21, etc.). De tiempo en tiempo surgen autores que tratan de aplicar este u otro de estos vaticinios contra las naciones, a tal o cual país moderno; pero siempre han fracasado esas tentativas que, por otra parte, suelen fundarse más en pasiones políticas que en puro amor a la verdad profética revelada por Dios. Sabemos, además, que para Él tiene incomparablemente mayor importancia el fenómeno religioso que todos los cambiantes problemas temporales de los hombres, como lo veremos a través de todos los profetas, en la historia del mismo Israel. Por tanto, si estos anuncios tuviesen alguna trascendencia escatológica, de esas que Dios hará entender “a su tiempo” (cf. Jeremías 23, 20; 30, 24; Daniel 12, 4-10, etc.) hemos de inclinarnos a pensar que ella será con respecto a fenómenos de orden espiritual y sobrenatural, como los relacionados con el Anticristo, la apostasía o la perversa Babilonia del Apocalipsis, que el mismo Libro sagrado llama “misterio” (Apocalipsis 17, 5), y ante cuya revelación el propio San Juan quedó “maravillado con asombro grande” (Apocalipsis 17, 6). En este sentido algunos pasajes de estas profecías (cf. 30, 3 y nota) muestran que tienen, como las de Babilonia, un seguro alcance escatológico, según es frecuente en los vaticinios mesiánicos y también en el gran discurso escatológico de Jesús (Mateo 24) que abarca, como en un paralelismo, la última caída de Jerusalén (70 d. C.) y los sucesos que acompañan la Parusía o “día del Señor”.

La antigua (Paletiro), aludida en versículo 7 ss. y en 27, 3, estaba sobre la ribera del Mediterráneo.
6 1Y sus hijas que están en el continente, perecerán al filo de la espada; y conocerán que Yo soy Yahvé.

San Jerónimo dice que, viéndose los tirios ya sin esperanza de poder resistir a los caldeos, se embarcaron en sus naves llevándose cuanto pudieron y dejando la ciudad como peña muy lisa (versículo 4). De ahí que el Señor ofrezca a Nabucodonosor otro botín porque en Tiro “no tuvo recompensa”. Cf. 29, 17 ss.
9 1Dirigirá el ataque de sus arietes contra tus muros y con sus instrumentos de hierro demolerá tus torres.

En 29, 17-20 vemos que Dios se lo reconoce a Nabucodonosor como un servicio. Más tarde la conquistó Alejandro Magno, pero tampoco la extinguió.
11 Con los cascos de sus caballos hollará todas tus calles; pasará a cuchillo a tu pueblo, y serán derribadas al suelo tus más poderosas columnas.
