Quinto oráculo contra Egipto
1 El año undécimo, el primer día del tercer mes, me fue dirigida la palabra de Yahvé, que dijo:

Mira a Asur: La caída de Egipto será semejante a la de Asur (Asiria), de cuya destrucción, acaecida 20 años antes, todos se acordaban todavía. Era un cedro del Líbano: “Los exégetas se dividen, creyendo unos que el cedro simboliza el imperio asirlo, cuya ruina será finura de la de Egipto, y opinando otros que en el oráculo de Ezequiel no entra para nada Asiria y si solo el Faraón y Egipto. Así parece deducirse de varios versículos del capítulo” (Bover-Cantera).
4 1Las aguas le habían dado crecimiento, y altura (las fuentes) del abismo, el cual hacía correr sus ríos alrededor del lugar donde estaba plantado, y hacía pasar sus arroyos por todos los árboles del campo.

El profeta desarrolla el vaticinio en forma de una alegoría. Así como fue Asiria, es también Egipto parecido a un cedro (versículo 8), en cuanto a la altura y hermosura. Su país tiene también abundancia de aguas (versículo 4), y los pueblos vecinos se cobijan bajo sus alas; con todo, Dios lo entregará a otro más poderoso que él (versículo 11): al más poderoso entre las naciones (algunos traducen: al dios de las naciones), que es Nabucodonosor. La soberbia del gran árbol (v. 10) será causa de que Dios lo haga destruir (cf. Isaías 10, 33 s. y nota), por haberse atribuido la gloria de esa prosperidad que solo Él le había dado (versículo 9) poniéndolo junto a las corrientes de agua (versículo 7). Cf. Salmo 1, 3. También un día será humillado el mismo Nabucodonosor, como un árbol semejante a este (Daniel 4, 10 ss.).
5 Por eso superaba en altura a todos los árboles campestres; se multiplicaron sus ramas y se dilató su fronda, merced a la abundancia de las aguas en el período de su crecimiento.

Y todos los pueblos de la tierra se retiraron de su sombra y le abandonaron.
