  1. 1. Dios llama al Profeta “hijo de hombre”, para recordarle la fragilidad humana (San Jerónimo). La expresión se repite 84 veces en Ezequiel y una vez en Daniel 8, 17. En Daniel 7, 13, en cambio, se entiende por el Hijo del hombre, lo mismo que en los 79 pasajes del Evangelio donde aparece este término, un ser sobrehumano, el Mesías, al cual Dios entrega la gloria, el poder y la dominación eterna. No faltan quienes en esta expresión quieren reconocer la reminiscencia de una locución babilónica, según la cual vendría a significar: hombre libre, noble. Pero no es esta la cuestión, sino más bien el significado que el profeta le atribuye. Aquí no quiere ser más que una perífrasis hebraica para indicar a un simple hombre, sin nombre personal.

  1. 2. Es decir que la Palabra de Dios es acompañada de su Espíritu santo. Así se llenaron de Él los que escuchaban a San Pedro en Hechos 10, 44, lo mismo que en Pentecostés (como él lo hace notar en Hechos de los Apóstoles 11, 15), aunque eran paganos. “¿Cómo no habría de obrar así, también en nosotros, esa divina Palabra cuando la buscamos en el Evangelio? ¿Cómo no habría de animarnos también al apostolado?”

3 1Y me dijo: “Hijo de hombre, te envío a los hijos de Israel, a esos gentiles apóstatas que se han rebelado contra Mí. Ellos y sus padres han pecado contra Mí, hasta este mismo día.

  1. 4. Hijos de rostro duro, etc.: Reproches frecuentes en boca de Dios para calificar a su pueblo, con esa severidad y amargura que muestra al mismo tiempo el corazón dolorido de un Padre. Nada más elocuente a ese respecto que la expresión “te oigan o no te oigan” (repetida en el versículo 7), como si Él no supiera muy bien hasta dónde habría de llegar esa ingratitud. Así también veía Jesús en la agonía de Getsemaní a los que durante todos los siglos actuales habrían de despreciar su Redención (cf. 17, 15 ss. y nota) y a los que pretenderían inutilizarla como aquellos “insensatos gálatas” a quienes fulmina el Apóstol de los gentiles (Gálatas 3, 1 ss.).

5 Te oigan o no te oigan —porque son una casa rebelde— por lo menos han de conocer que hay un profeta en medio de ellos.
