Es también la Escritura semejante a una fuente de inagotable caudal. Nuestros antepasados bebieron de sus aguas, según sus fuerzas; los venideros beberán también, sin que agoten la fuente, antes al contrario, manará más copiosa y serán más abundantes sus aguas” (San Crisóstomo, In Génesis, Homilía 3).
11 Pues la sabiduría vale más que perlas, y todas las cosas deseables no la igualan.

Bossuet dice al respecto: “Dios me poseyó, dice la Sabiduría, es decir, Dios me ha engendrado, tal como Eva, una vez nacido Caín, se dijo a sí misma: «He poseído un hombre por la gracia de Dios»... Hay en Dios una Sabiduría esencial, que estando primitiva y originalmente en el Padre le hace fecundo para producir en su seno a la Sabiduría, que es su Verbo y su Hijo.” Bossuet alude a Génesis4, 1, donde se usa el mismo verbo “qanani” para expresar el nacimiento de un hombre, por lo cual algunos le dan el sentido de crear, engendrar (en vez de poseer), por ejemplo las antiguas versiones de Aquilas, Teodoción, Símaco, LXX, Peschitto, Ferrarense y muchos Padres. Todo este pasaje habla de la Sabiduría eterna, el Verbo que desde un principio estaba en Dios (Juan 1, 2; 8, 58) y por el cual todo fue creado. Descubrimos así, en pleno Antiguo Testamento, nuevos capítulos del Evangelio, en que Jesús nos anticipa la revelación de sus misterios, así como en los Salmos nos hizo conocer anticipadamente su oración (Salmo 39, 7; cf. Hebreos 10, 5 ss. y notas). ¿Puede haber mayor regalo? Es la gran verdad que San Agustín expresa diciendo que el Nuevo Testamento se esconde en el Antiguo, y este se manifiesta en el Nuevo.
