En el lenguaje de los profetas se refiere este término a los tiempos mesiánicos y escatológicos en que el monte de la Casa del Señor, el Sión, resplandecerá con sueva luz. “La elevación aquí predicha, figura la gloria futura de Sión en los últimos tiempos, cuando el Dios allí adorado, fuere reconocido como Dios de toda la tierra” (Crampón). De Sión saldrá la Ley: Cf. la palabra de Jesucristo: la salvación procede de los judíos (Juan 4, 22).
3 Y llegarán muchos pueblos y dirán: “¡Venid, subamos al monte de Yahvé, a la Casa del Dios de Jacob! Él nos enseñará sus caminos, e iremos por sus sendas”; pues de Sión saldrá la ley, y de Jerusalén la palabra de Yahvé.

No se han cumplido todavía estos vaticinios sobre la paz perfecta. “La realización completa no tendrá lugar, sino en la consumación de los tiempos, porque en esta tierra, donde el mal subsistirá siempre al lado del bien, no se puede buscar un cumplimiento perfecto” (Fillion). Cf. Mateo 13, 24- 43. Entretanto tenemos que esperar hasta que se cumpla el deseo del salmista: “Dispersa, oh Dios, a los pueblos que se gozan en las guerras” (Salmos 67, 31). La actual búsqueda excesiva de la paz entre las naciones y los continuos pactos de seguridad son una señal de que no hay paz, pues la tan deseada paz mundial no podrá realizarse sin la sumisión y obediencia a la ley divina. Así se explica que los paganos (de antes y de ahora) no sean capaces de este ideal, porque van tras sus Ídolos (versículo 5). En este sentido nada es más trágico que la Biblia en cuanto se refiere al destino de las naciones, que solemos mirar con ilusorio optimismo. Véase Mateo 24, 21-25; Lucas 8, 18; 17, 26 ss.; 21, 25 ss.; I Tesalonicenses 5, 3; II Tesalonicenses 2, 8 ss.; I Timoteo 4, 1 ss.; I Timoteo 3, 1 ss.; II Pedro 3, 3; Apocalipsis 9, 20 s.; 16, 9 ss.; 19, 15 ss.; 20, 7 ss., etc. Jeremías enseña que el vaticinar prosperidad es la característica de los falsos profetas (Jeremías 4, 10; 6, 14, etc.). Después de dos guerras mundiales en un cuarto del siglo XX (Lucas 21, 10 s.) y con la energía atómica aplicada a destruir como una “anti-creación”, y el neomalthusianismo que ciega las fuentes de la vida. ¿en qué podría fundarse la esperanza de un mundo mejor? (Véase 1, 16 y nota). Solo en el orgullo que cree en las fuerzas propias del hombre caído, del cual nos dice el mismo Dios por boca de Jeremías: “¡Maldito el hombre que pone su confianza en el hombre, y se apoya en un brazo de carne!” (Jeremías 17, 5). Caballos y carros de guerra constituyen, según la Ley (Deuteronomio 17, 16; Salmos 19, 8), un peligro para los israelitas, los que más que en caballos y carros han de confiar en la ayuda del Señor. Están llenos (de la corrupción) del Oriente, es decir, de la idolatría que venía especialmente de los países situados al Este de Palestina. La Vulgata vierte: Están llenos como antiguamente.
