1. a ten, only feminine plural tens in phrase ׳שָׂרֵי ע captains of tens Exod 18:21; Exod 18:25 (E), Deut 1:15.

2. ten, enumerating person or things, usually without other numbers:
  a. עֶ֫שֶׂר before feminine plural noun, Gen 45:23 + 43 t. after noun 1Kgs 7:27; 1Kgs 7:43 + late passages Josh 15:57; Josh 21:5; Josh 21:26 (all P), 1Chr 6:46; 2Chr 4:7 before בָּאַמָּה = ten cubits 1Kgs 6:3; 1Kgs 6:25; 1Kgs 6:26; 1Kgs 7:23; 1Kgs 7:24.
  b. עֲשָׂרָה before masculine plural noun, Gen 45:23 + 25 t. 3. rarely + other number:
  a. עֶשֶׂר after larger number, מֵאָה שָׁנִים ׳וָע Gen 50:22; Gen 50:26; Josh 24:29 (all E), Judg 2:8.
  b. ׳ע before larger number עֶשֶׂר שָׁנִים וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֺת שָׁנָה Gen 5:14 (P).
  c. עֲשָׂרָה after larger number, מֵאָה וַעֲשָׂרָה הַזְּכָרִים Ezra 8:12, compare (noun preceding) Ezra 1:10.
  d. עֲשָׂרָה after smaller number, שִׁבְעָה שְׁקָלִים וַעֲשָׂרָה הַכָּ֑סֶף Jer 32:9 = seventeen shekels; before smaller number + singular noun עֲשָׂרָה וַחֲמִשָּׁה שֶׁקֶל Ezek 45:12, but read חֲמִשִּׁים joining עֲשָׂרָה to preceding, ᵐ5^A Hi Co and others

I. as cardinal:

1. without other number:
  a. usually followed by singular noun (especially שָׁנָה, אִישׁ, אַמָּה, etc.) Gen 31:38; 1Sam 14:14; Exod 38:18 + 64 t., + עֶשְׂרִים אֶלֶף 20,000 1Chr 18:4 + 7 t. + Ezek 45:1 (reading עֶשְׂרִים אָ֑לֶף, see עֶשֶׂר 2 b).

  e. noun omitted Gen 18:31 (twice in verse) (׳הָע), 1Kgs 6:2 + 6 t., as predicate Exod 27:10 (twice in verse); Exod 27:11 (twice in verse) + 4 t. feminine + בָּאַמָּה Zech 5:12.

  a. with units, usually 20 + (with וְ) unit + singular noun Judg 10:2; Judg 10:3; 1Kgs 14:20 + 58 t.   c. plural noun + 20 + unit Josh 19:30 (twice in verse); 1Chr 12:29 (van d. H. v.1Chr 12:28).
  d. c. hundreds, 20 usually following; followed by singular noun 1Kgs 9:14; Gen 6:3; Deut 31:2 + 7 t.; noun omitted 2Chr 3:4; Ezra 2:32 = Neh 7:35 20 + 100 (noun omitted) Num 7:86.
  e. plural noun + 100 + 20 1Chr 15:5; 1Chr 15:6 — compare further מֵאָה. II. as ordinal:

1. 20 alone, ׳בִּשְׁנַת ע in the twentieth year 1Kgs 15:9 + 4 t.; noun omitted Num 10:11 + 3 t.

2. a. 20 + unit + ns. Ezek 29:17; Ezek 40:1.
