Job responde al Omnipotente

3 1¿Quién es este que imprudentemente oscurece el plan (divino)? (Soy yo); he hablado temerariamente de las maravillas superiores a mí y que yo ignoraba.

Sublime reminiscencia de aquellas palabras, que Dios le dijo en 38, 2. Job nos muestra aquí una contrición perfecta; ni siquiera se excusa con el extremo dolor que le causa su enfermedad. Vemos aquí el misterio de la prueba de fe a que Dios nos somete para llevarnos a la sabiduría, como admirablemente lo explica el Eclesiástico 4, 18-21. Es el sometimiento que exige San Pablo en II Corintios 10, 5, y el mismo Jesús en Mateo 16, 24. Cf. Judit, 8, 12 s.; I Pedro 1, 7.

Es otra reminiscencia de lo que Dios le dijo antes. “El versículo es una combinación de 38, 31 y 38, 3 b. Parece como que Job va rumiando las reconvenciones de Dios y mezclándolas a sus reflexiones propias” (Bover- Cantera). Job guarda silencio, admirando la osadía que tuvo al querer juzgar lo que Dios hace. Es quizá el momento más patético de este incomparable drama espiritual.

He aquí el último acto del drama: plena felicidad del que fue probado en la tentación. “La conclusión es manifiesta. Dios envía a los hombres las tribulaciones, no solo para castigarlos por sus pecados, sino también para purificarlos como el oro en el crisol y hacerles progresar en la virtud. En esto consiste la purificación del amor, como lo llaman los grandes místicos cristianos” (Garrigou-Lagrange, Providencia y Confianza, III, 3). Job es figura de Cristo, no solo en la pasión sin culpa (16, 18 y nota), sino también en la oración (cf. las lecciones del Oficio de Difuntos, en que habla Job, con los Salmos del mismo Oficio, en que habla místicamente Jesús); en la esperanza de la resurrección (cf. 19, 25 con Salmo 15, 10 interpretado por los Apóstoles en Hechos de los Apóstoles 2, 31 y 13, 35), y finalmente en la glorificación y triunfo (Hebreos 1, 6; II Tesalonicenses 1, 10; Hebreos 2, 9; Colosenses 3, 4; Apocalipsis 19, 11 ss., etc.). El Apóstol Santiago exhorta a los que sufren, a tener paciencia como Job y a confortarse viendo el fin de este maravilloso poema “porque el Señor es lleno de compasión y de misericordia” (Santiago 5, 11).
