Tercer discurso de Elifaz

Por tercera vez comienzan los amigos de Job a acusarlo de iniquidad, invitándole al arrepentimiento y prometiéndole en tal caso multitud de bienes. Sofar ya no interviene porque está vencido.
2 1“¿Puede el hombre ser útil a Dios? Solo a sí mismo es útil el sabio.

3 ¿Qué provecho tiene el Todopoderoso de que tú seas justo? ¿O qué ventaja, si son perfectos tus caminos?

Falsedad manifiesta, pues el dolor de Job, aunque intensísimo, no va acompañado de los terrores que son propios del remordimiento en una conciencia doble. Al contrario, está, como hemos visto, lleno de esperanza (19, 25 s. y nota), aun en los momentos en que Dios lo prueba con oscuridad de espíritu (23, 15 ss. y notas), porque no duda del fin, pues Dios es misericordioso, como dice Santiago 5, 11-13 s. Nunca había dicho esto el piadoso paciente. Vemos aquí descubierto el espíritu de los falsos profetas. Es el abismo de iniquidad de los fariseos que reprobaron en nombre de la virtud al que era la Fuente de toda santidad; en nombre de Dios, condenaron al que es su Hijo Unigénito. Jesús nos confirma esto en Juan 16, 2.
