Chapter 5
1 Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and anyone that loves him that begat also loves him that is born of him.

And the Spirit is he that bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth.

τρεῖςtreisthreeG5140A-NPM εἰσινeisinareG1510V-PAI-3P μαρτυροῦντεςmarturountesbearing testimonyG3140V-PAP-NPM τρεῖςtreisthreeG5140A-NPM εἰσιν.eisinare.G1510V-PAI-3P 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son.

ἔχωνechōnhavingG2192V-PAP-NSM ἔχειecheihasG2192V-PAI-3S ἔχωνechōnhavingG2192V-PAP-NSM θεοῦtheouof GodG2316N-GSM-T ἔχει.¶echeihas.G2192V-PAI-3S 13 These things I have written unto you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe in the name of the Son of God.

οἴδαμενoidamenwe knowG6063V-PAI-1P ἀκούειakoueiHe hearsG0191V-PAI-3S αἰτώμεθα,aitōmethawe shall ask,G0154V-PMS-1P οἴδαμενoidamenwe knowG6063V-PAI-1P ἔχομενechomenwe haveG2192V-PAI-1P αἰτήματαaitēmatarequestsG0155N-APN ᾐτήκαμενētēkamenwe have askedG0154V-RAI-1P αὐτοῦ.¶autouHim.G0846P-GSM 16 If any man see his brother sin a sin [which is] not unto death, he shall ask [God], and he shall give him life [that is], unto those that do not sin unto death. There is sin unto death, for which I do not say that you should pray.

ἀδικίαadikiaunrighteousnessG0093N-NSF ἁμαρτίαhamartiasinG0266N-NSF ἐστίν,estinis,G1510V-PAI-3S ἔστινestinthere isG1510V-PAI-3S ἁμαρτίαhamartiasinG0266N-NSF θάνατον.thanatondeath.G2288N-ASM 18 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.

οἴδαμενoidamenWe knowG6063V-RAI-1P ἐσμενesmenwe areG1510V-PAI-1P κόσμοςkosmosworldG2889N-NSM πονηρῷponērōevil [one]G4190A-DSM κεῖται.keitailies.G2749V-PNI-3S 20 But we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, [even] in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
