  1. Le Seigneur ne daigne pas répondre à Éliu, qui, dans son orgueil présomptueux, n’avait parlé que pour supposer continuellement ce qui était en question en blessant la justice et la charité par ses accusations. La patience de Job à laisser parler Eliu sans lui répondre est aussi bien admirable.
  2. Le Seigneur exauce tous les vœux de Job ; il répond à ses plaidoiries ; il lui parle pour faire reconnaître son innocence ; il se voile pour ne pas l’effrayer ; il lui révèle ce qui s’est passé.

  1. Dieu reproche à Job, non d’avoir faussé la vérité, mais de l’avoir obscurcie par quelques exagérations inspirées par la violence de la tentation, et par un trop grand désir de connaître et de faire connaître aux autres les secrets de la justice de Dieu à son égard.
  2. Dieu veut dire ici que si l’on obscurcit son conseil, c’est aux yeux des hommes et non pas pour lui. Peut-être aussi Job n’avait-il pas osé découvrir toutes les pensées que la nature, dans son état de tentation, lui suggérait.
