Ἀβραάμ (Rec.t Ἁβραάμ; cf. Tdf. Proleg., p. 106) (Josephus, Ἄβραμος, ), אַבְרָהָם (father of a multitude, cf. Gen 17:5), Abraham, the renowned founder of the Jewish nation: Mat 1:1; Mat 22:32; Luk 19:9; Joh 8:33; Act 3:25; Heb 7:1 ff, and elsewhere. He is extolled by the apostle Paul as a pattern of faith, Rom 4:1 ff; Rom 4:17 ff; Gal 3:6 (cf. Heb 11:8), on which account all believers in Christ have a claim to the title sons or posterity of Abraham, Gal 3:7; Gal 3:29; cf. Rom 4:11.
