Chapter 5
1 But, concerning the times and the seasons, brethren,—ye have, no need, that, unto you, anything be written;

αὐτοὶautoiYourselvesG0846P-NPM ἀκριβῶςakribōsfullyG0199ADV οἴδατεoidateyou knowG6063V-RAI-2P κυρίουkuriouof [the] LordG2962GN-GSM-T κλέπτηςkleptēsa thiefG2812N-NSM νυκτὶnuktinightG3571N-DSF οὕτωςhoutōsin this mannerG3779ADV ἔρχεται·erchetaicomes;G2064V-PNI-3S 3 As soon as they begin to say—Peace! and safety! then, suddenly, upon them, cometh destruction,—just as the birth-throe unto her that is with child,—and in nowise shall they escape.

καθεύδοντεςkatheudontessleepingG2518V-PAP-NPM νυκτὸςnuktosby nightG3571N-GSF καθεύδουσινkatheudousinsleepG2518V-PAI-3P μεθυσκόμενοιmethuskomenoibecoming drunkG3182V-PPP-NPM νυκτὸςnuktosby nightG3571N-GSF μεθύουσιν·methuousinget drunk;G3184V-PAI-3P 8 But, we, being of the day, let us be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and, for helmet, the hope of salvation.

ἔθετοethetohas destinedG5087V-2AMI-3S ὀργὴνorgēnwrathG3709N-ASF περιποίησινperipoiēsinobtainingG4047N-ASF σωτηρίαςsōtēriassalvationG4991N-GSF ΧριστοῦChristouChristG5547N-GSM-T 10 Who died for us, in order that, whether we be watching or sleeping, together with him, we should live.
τοῦtouthe [One who]G3588T-GSM ἀποθανόντοςapothanontoshaving diedG0599V-2AAP-GSM γρηγορῶμενgrēgorōmenwe shall watchG1127V-PAS-1P καθεύδωμενkatheudōmenwe shall sleepG2518V-PAS-1P ζήσωμεν.¶zēsōmenwe may live.G2198V-AAS-1P 11 Wherefore be consoling one another, and building up, each the other,—even as ye are also doing.

Be at peace among yourselves,

ἀδιαλείπτωςadialeiptōsUnceasinglyG0089ADV προσεύχεσθε·proseuchesthedo pray;G4336V-PNM-2P 18 In everything, give thanks,—for, this, is a thing willed of God, in Christ Jesus, towards you:

σβέννυτε·sbennutedo quench;G4570V-PAM-2P 20 Prophesyings, do not despise,
προφητείαςprophēteiasPropheciesG4394N-APF ἐξουθενεῖτε·exoutheneitedo despise;G1848V-PAM-2P 21 [But], all things, put to the proof—what is comely, hold ye fast:
πάνταpantaAll thingsG3956A-APN δοκιμάζετε·dokimazetedo test;G1381V-PAM-2P κατέχετε·katechetedo hold fast;G2722V-PAM-2P 22 From every form of wickedness, abstain.
παντὸςpantoseveryG3956A-GSN εἴδουςeidousformG1491N-GSN πονηροῦponērouof evilG4190A-GSN ἀπέχεσθε.apechesthedo abstain.G0568V-PMM-2P 23 But, the God of peace himself, hallow you completely, and, entire, might your spirit, and soul, and body,—[so as to be] unblameable in the Presence of our Lord Jesus Christ,—be preserved!
