Después de haber obtenido: otra diferencia entre el Sacerdote celestial y los de la Ley: el Sumo Pontífice entraba una vez al año en el santuario (Santo de los Santos) del Tabernáculo (y luego del Templo único) de Jerusalén; y, después de entrar, derramaba sobre el Propiciatorio sangre de animales por los pecados del pueblo y los suyos (Lv. 16, 14 ss.; Nm. 19, 9 y 17). En cambio Jesucristo, antes de entrar, y por única vez, al Santuario celestial (10, 19), constituido Sacerdote para siempre (5, 9; 6, 20; 8, 2; 10, 21), había derramado como Víctima, en este mundo, su Sangre de infinito valor, y así obtenido redención eterna (v. 12), pues el Padre “lo puso como instrumento de propiciación por medio de la fe en su Sangre” (Rm. 3, 25), con esa eficacia definitiva (10, 10) que no tuvo aquel antiguo Propiciatorio. De aquí deducen los sectarios la objeción de que la misa sería una repetición innecesaria del Sacrificio de Cristo ya consumado en el Calvario y ofrecido en el cielo. La verdad es que Jesús mandó hacer en memoria suya lo que Él realizó en la Cena, y el mismo S. Pablo (1 Co. 11, 20 ss.) y S. Lucas (Hch. 2, 42) nos muestran que, en su cumplimiento, los primeros cristianos “perseveraban en la fracción del pan” y “en la Cena del Señor”. S. Justino y S. Ireneo recogen en igual sentido la tradición primitiva de la Iglesia. Y lo mismo hicieron S. Ignacio Mártir y S. Clemente Romano. El cristiano de fe ilustrada sabe que en la misa no se ofrece una víctima distinta de la que fue inmolada en el Calvario (v. 26) y que todos nuestros ruegos, como los del celebrante, han de unirse a los de la divina Víctima Jesús, el Sumo Sacerdote para siempre, que allí en el Santuario celestial, “con su intercesión incesante, con la aplicación de los frutos de la cruz y con la continuada renovación del sacrificio eucarístico, da cierta perpetuidad moral al sacrificio del Calvario” (Bover).
