Pablo, que en las Epístolas de la cautividad nos presentará a Jesús como la Cabeza del Cuerpo Místico (Ef. 1, 22 s.; 4, 16, etc.) quiere aquí “que sepamos” que Jesús es Cabeza de cada varón, siendo este para Cristo lo mismo que la esposa es para él, es decir, algo que, si bien le está sometido, no es una simple esclava sino el objeto de todo su amor, a quien él mismo se entrega totalmente. Este concepto del alma esposa de Cristo, que meditamos en el Cantar de los Cantares, es completado por S. Pablo en 2 Co. 11, 2, donde dice que nos ha presentado a Cristo para desposarnos con Él como una casta virgen. Dios es cabeza de Cristo: Véase en 3, 22-23 y notas, cómo este misterio de amor y sumisión de la mujer al varón y del varón a Cristo, es el mismo que existe entre Jesús y el Padre.

No es que sea necesario, sino que es inevitable, porque Jesús anunció que Él traería división (Mt. 10, 34) y que en un mismo hogar habría tres contra dos (Lc. 12, 51 s.) y a veces hay que odiar a la propia familia para ser discípulo de Él (Lc. 14, 26), porque no todos los invitados al banquete de bodas tienen el traje nupcial (Mt. 22, 14), y la separación definitiva de unos y otros solo será en la consumación del siglo (Mt. 13, 47- 49). Entretanto, en la lucha se manifiesta y se corrobora la fe de los que de veras son de Él (1 Pe. 1, 7; St. 1, 12). Antes, había tenido que revelar muchas veces, a los azorados ojos de sus discípulos, el misterio de su rechazo por la Sinagoga y de su Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección.
