II. CRECIMIENTO DE LA IGLESIA EN PALESTINA Y SIRIA
Persecución en Jerusalén
1 Saulo, empero, consentía en la muerte de él (de Esteban). Levantose en aquellos días una gran persecución contra la Iglesia de Jerusalén, por lo cual todos, menos los apóstoles se dispersaron por las regiones de Judea y Samaria1.

En este pasaje, que forma la Epístola de la Misa votiva del Espíritu Santo, vemos cómo los despreciados samaritanos recibían la Palabra de Dios con buena voluntad, dando una nueva prueba de lo que tantas veces había dicho Jesús en favor de ellos y de otros paganos, como el Centurión y la Cananea, cuya fe podía servir de ejemplo a los mismos israelitas (cf. 10, 2 ss.; Is. 9, 1 ss. y nota). Vemos también la caridad y la sencillez de la Iglesia naciente, en que los apóstoles, todos judíos, no vacilan en mandar al mismo Papa Pedro y al Discípulo amado, a que visiten y evangelicen a aquellos samaritanos, confirmándolos en la fe con ayuda del Sacramento de la Confirmación (v. 17). Hoy disfrutamos del gran misterio de la gracia, que pocos aprovechan, porque no lo conocen: El cristiano recibe del Padre no solo el perdón de los pecados por los méritos de Cristo, sino que también recibe la fuerza para no pecar más mediante la gracia y los dones del Espíritu Santo (cf. Rm. 6): pues Él nos hace hijos de Dios (Ga. 4, 6), y “el que ha nacido de Dios no peca” (1 Jn. 3, 9). Tal es el Bautismo que iba a dar Jesús con su sangre: el Bautismo “en Espíritu Santo y fuego” según las palabras con que lo preanunciaba el Bautista (Mt. 3, 11; Mc. 1, 8; Lc. 3, 16; Jn. 1, 26). Cf. 1, 5; 11, 16 y 19, 2-6, donde el Bautismo en nombre del Señor Jesús va igualmente seguido de la imposición de las manos. Véase 19, 4.

San Crisóstomo observa que Felipe no había podido administrarla porque estaba reservada a los Doce, y él era simple diácono, “uno de los siete”. Habían recibido ya al Espíritu Santo en el Bautismo, pero no en esa plenitud con que se manifestó en Pentecostés sobre los discípulos reunidos (2, 1 ss.) y que trascendió aquí también en carismas visibles y don de milagros, como lo nota el ambicioso Simón Mago (v. 18). Condenación de Simón Mago
18 Viendo Simón que por la imposición de las manos de los apóstoles se daba el Espíritu Santo, les ofreció bienes1,

San Pedro señala con gran elocuencia (v. 20) la contradicción de querer comprar lo que es un don, es decir, lo que es dado y no vendido (cfr. Ct. 8, 7 y nota). Recordaba la palabra terminante de Jesús a los Doce: “Gratis recibisteis, dad gratuitamente” (Mt. 10, 8).

La Historia eclesiástica le llama “padre de los herejes”.
25 Ellos, pues, habiendo dado testimonio y predicado la palabra de Dios, regresaron a Jerusalén y evangelizaron muchas aldeas de los samaritanos.

También el contexto parece requerirlo como respuesta a la pregunta del v. 36, la cual sin él quedaría trunca, y entonces no se explicaría que el eunuco hiciese parar el carro (v. 38) como pretendiendo recibir el bautismo sin conocer la conformidad de Felipe. En cuanto a la doctrina de este texto, según la cual “Felipe exigió del neófito una profesión exterior de fe antes de bautizarlo” (Fillion), es la misma de otros pasajes (cfr. 2, 41 y nota). Es un caso más en que la fe se muestra vinculada al conocimiento de la Palabra de Dios (v. 35), según lo enseña S. Pablo (Rm. 10, 17).
