QUINTO LIBRO DE LOS SALMOS
Es eterna su misericordia

Aunque se ignora su autor, este riquísimo poema que inicia el libro quinto y último de los Salmos, empieza con las mismas palabras que los dos anteriores (cf. Salmo 105, 1 y nota). Se le considera posterior a la cautividad de Babilonia, y algunos suponen que la segunda parte (versículos 33-43) formase un cuerpo distinto, con ecos de Job y sobre todo de Isaías (cf. versículo 33 y nota). Su tema, como el de los anteriores, se inspira en la vida de Israel y su destino. Si la historia es “la maestra de la vida” (Cicerón), ninguna otra puede enseñarnos tanto como esta Historia sagrada, porque en ella hunde sus raíces el verdadero espíritu del cristianismo (Romanos 11, 17), aunque algunos lo hayan olvidado para buscar en el humanismo pagano o neopagano las fuentes de lo que llaman cultura. De ahí que este Salmo muestre también, a quien quiera verla, esa providencia de Dios que ama a los hombres y los corrige y los perdona como a hijos (cf. Hebreos 12, 3-13), y muestre asimismo cómo el Dios que por su Hijo nos mandó perdonar las injurias hasta infinitas veces (Mateo 18, 22), empieza por darnos el ejemplo, puesto que Él mismo se ofreció de modelo (Lucas 6, 36; Efesios 4, 32). Así también perdonaría hoy a hombres y pueblos apenas se volvieran a Él. Cf. Nehemías 9; Lucas 15, 20.

Alusión a la providencia de Dios en la esclavitud de Egipto y los diversos cautiverios sufridos por Israel; más adelante recuerda su bondad con las caravanas extraviadas (versículos 4-9); los presos (10-16); los enfermos (17-22); los navegantes (23-32) y en el himno final (versículos 33-42) lo alaba por sus promesas a los hambrientos y oprimidos, añadiendo, como triste moraleja, la pregunta del versículo 43 que recuerda la de Jesús en Lucas 18, 8.

Ha congregado: Gramática cita aquí Salmo 105, 47; Deuteronomio 30, 3; Eclesiástico 36, 13; Isaías 11, 12; 43, 5; 56, 8; Jeremías 29, 14; 31, 8 y 10; Ezequiel 20, 34 y 41 y 39, 27, pasajes todos alusivos a la restauración mesiánica esperada por Israel y no solo a la vuelta de Babilonia (aun el de Jeremías 29, 14), pues entonces su condición continuó siendo precaria y no se cumplieron tales esperanzas (cf. Salmo 84, 1 y nota). Es decir que, como anota aquí acertadamente Nácar-Colunga: “este Salmo que nos describe como pasado el cautiverio babilónico termina pintándonos la restauración con colores claramente mesiánicos, cosa frecuente en los profetas que desarrollan el mismo tema”. El texto habla en efecto de los cuatro puntos cardinales (cf. Ezequiel 37, 23 y nota) y es indudable que estos congregados son los mismos a quienes se invita a cantar el himno final de gratitud (versículo 32). Véase versículos 33 ss. y notas.

El versículo 6 (véase Salmo 105, 44) se repite en los versículos 13, 19 y 28 como un estribillo que recuerda la infatigable misericordia del Padre celestial (Salmo 102, 13 s.).

Así lo fue en Cristo, el Logos o Verbo de Dios (Juan 1, 1-8), que vino a curar a todos los afligidos, publicando el Evangelio del perdón en el “año de reconciliación” (Lucas 4, 18 s.; Isaías 61, 1), y vendrá por segunda vez en el “día de la venganza” (Isaías 61, 2; 59, 18; 63, 1-6; Apocalipsis 19, 13, etc.).

Esta satisfacción de los justos, frente a la confusión de los impíos que ya no tendrán más pretexto para murmurar de la divina Providencia (Job 5, 16), es con harto motivo una de las grandes características de los tiempos mesiánicos y constituye una suprema aspiración de justicia que en vano se perseguirá mientras la cizaña esté mezclada con el trigo (Mateo 13, 30 y 41) y la red contenga “peces de toda clase” (Mateo 13, 47 ss.).
