Este Salmo se compone de dos fragmentos de otros dos, ambos davídicos y elohistas (cf. Salmo 41, 1 y nota): el Salmo 56, 8-12 forma los versículos 1-6 y el 59, 7-14 forma los versículos 7-14. El versículo 7 combina notablemente ambas secciones, cuya unión armoniosa da un marcado sabor mesiánico a este Salmo que, como observa Calès, tiene una individualidad propia y, aunque hubiese sido combinado después de Babilonia, es todo de David puesto que lo son sus partes. Compárense las notas respectivas.
