Chapter 20
1 And it came to pass, on one of those days, as he is teaching the people in the temple, and proclaiming good news, the chief priests and the scribes, with the elders, came upon him ,

ἈποκριθεὶςApokritheisAnsweringG0611V-AOP-NSM εἶπενeipenHe saidG2036V-2AAI-3S αὐτούς·autousthem;G0846P-APM ἐρωτήσωerōtēsōWill askG2065V-FAI-1S κἀγὼkagōI myself alsoG1473P-1NS + G2532 λόγον,logonthing,G3056N-ASM εἴπατέeipatedo tellG2036V-2AAM-2P 4 the baptism of John, from heaven was it, or from men?'
βάπτισμαbaptismabaptismG0908N-NSN ἸωάννουIōannouof JohnG2491GN-GSM-P οὐρανοῦouranouheavenG3772N-GSM ἀνθρώπων;anthrōpōnmen?G0444N-GPM 5 And they reasoned with themselves, saying--`If we may say, From heaven, he will say, Wherefore, then, did ye not believe him?
συνελογίσαντοsunelogisantothey reasonedG4817V-ADI-3P ἑαυτοὺςhe'autousthemselvesG1438F-3APM λέγοντεςlegontessayingG3004GV-PAP-NPM εἴπωμεν·eipōmenwe shall say:G2036V-2AAS-1P οὐρανοῦ,ouranouheaven,G3772N-GSM ἐρεῖ·ereiHe will say;G4483V-FAI-3S διὰdiaBecause ofG1223PREP ἐπιστεύσατεepisteusatedid you believeG4100V-AAI-2P αὐτῷ;autōin him?G0846P-DSM 6 and if we may say, From men, all the people will stone us, for they are having been persuaded John to be a prophet.'
εἴπωμεν·eipōmenwe shall say;G2036V-2AAS-1P ἀνθρώπων,anthrōpōnmen,G0444N-GPM καταλιθάσειkatalithaseiwill stoneG2642V-FAI-3S πεπεισμένοςpepeismenospersuadedG3982V-RPP-NSM ἐστινestinthey areG1510V-PAI-3S ἸωάννηνIōannēnJohnG2491GN-ASM-P προφήτηνprophētēna prophetG4396N-ASM εἶναι.einaito be.G1511V-PAN 7 And they answered, that they knew not whence it was ,

I will send my son--the beloved, perhaps having seen this one, they will do reverence;

And having heard, they said, `Let it not be!'

ἐμβλέψαςemblepsashaving lookedG1689V-AAP-NSM αὐτοῖςautoisat themG0846P-DPM εἶπεν·eipenHe said;G2036V-2AAI-3S ἐστινestinisG1510V-PAI-3S γεγραμμένονgegrammenonwrittenG1125V-RPP-NSN τοῦτο·toutothis:G3778D-NSN λίθονlithon[The] stoneG3037N-ASM ἀπεδοκίμασανapedokimasanrejectedG0593V-AAI-3P οἰκοδομοῦντες,oikodomountesbuilding,G3618V-PAP-NPM οὗτοςhoutosthisG3778D-NSM ἐγενήθηegenēthēhas becomeG1096V-2AOI-3S κεφαλὴνkephalēn[the] headG2776N-ASF γωνίας;gōniasof [the] corner’?G1137N-GSF 18 every one who hath fallen on that stone shall be broken, and on whom it may fall, it will crush him to pieces.'
πεσὼνpesōnfallingG4098V-2AAP-NSM ἐκεῖνονekeinonthat [very]G1565D-ASM λίθονlithonstoneG3037N-ASM συνθλασθήσεται·sunthlasthēsetaiwill be broken;G4917V-FPI-3S πέσῃ,pesēit may fall,G4098V-2AAS-3S λικμήσειlikmēseiit will grind into powderG3039V-FAI-3S αὐτόν.¶autonhim.G0846P-ASM 19 And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him in that hour, and they feared the people, for they knew that against them he spake this simile.

εἶπενeipenHe saidG2036V-2AAI-3S αὐτούς·autousthem;G0846P-APM τοίνυνtoinunThereforeG5106CONJ ἀπόδοτεapodotedo give backG0591V-2AAM-2P τὰtathe [things]G3588T-APN ΚαίσαροςKaisarosof CaesarG2541JN-GSM-T ΚαίσαριKaisarito CaesarG2541JN-DSM-T τὰtathe [things]G3588T-APN θεοῦtheouof GodG2316N-GSM-T θεῷ.theōto God.G2316N-DSM-T 26 and they were not able to take hold on his saying before the people, and having wondered at his answer, they were silent.

ὕστερονhusteronFinallyG5306A-ASN-C πάντωνpantōnof allG3956A-GPN ἀπέθανεν.apethanendied.G0599V-2AAI-3S 33 in the rising again, then, of which of them doth she become wife? --for the seven had her as wife.'

ἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisansweringG0611V-AOP-NSM εἶπενeipensaidG2036V-2AAI-3S αὐτοῖςautoisto themG0846P-DPM Ἰησοῦς·IēsousJesus;G2424GN-NSM-P τούτουtoutouthisG3778D-GSM γαμοῦσινgamousinmarryG1060V-PAI-3P γαμίσκονται,gamiskontaiare given in marriage,G1061V-PPI-3P 35 but those accounted worthy to obtain that age, and the rising again that is out of the dead, neither marry, nor are they given in marriage;
καταξιωθέντεςkataxiōthenteshaving been considered worthyG2661V-APP-NPM ἐκείνουekeinouthat [one]G1565D-GSM τυχεῖνtucheinto obtainG5177V-2AAN ἀναστάσεωςanastaseōsresurrectionG0386N-GSF νεκρῶνnekrōn[the] deadG3498A-GPM οὔτεouteneitherG3777CONJ-N γαμοῦσινgamousinmarryG1060V-PAI-3P γαμίζονται·gamizontaiare given in marriage;G1061V-PPI-3P 36 for neither are they able to die any more--for they are like messengers--and they are sons of God, being sons of the rising again.

οὐκέτιouketino longerG3756PRT-N + G2089 ἐτόλμωνetolmōnwere they daringG5111V-IAI-3P ἐπερωτᾶνeperōtanto askG1905V-PAN οὐδέν.¶oudenno [thing].G3762A-ASN 41 And he said unto them, `How do they say the Christ to be son of David,
