1 That same day, when Jesus had left the house and was sitting by the Sea,

ἔχωνechōnhavingG2192V-PAP-NSM ἀκούεινakoueinto hearG0191V-PAN ἀκουέτω.¶akouetōhe should hear.G0191V-PAM-3S 10 Afterwards his disciples came to him, and said: “Why do you speak to them in parables?”

This is the person meant by the seed which was sown along the path.

πετρώδηpetrōdērocky placesG4075A-APN σπαρείς,spareishaving been sown,G4687V-2APP-NSM οὗτόςhoutosthisG3778D-NSM ἐστινestinisG1510V-PAI-3S ἀκούωνakouōnhearingG0191V-PAP-NSM εὐθὺςeuthusimmediatelyG2112ADV λαμβάνωνlambanōnreceivingG2983V-PAP-NSM 21 but, as they have no root, they stand for only a short time; and, when trouble or persecution arises because of the message, they fall away at once.

Where, then, do the weeds in it come from?’

Presently his disciples came to him, and said: “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
