Chapter 4
1 And again He began to teach by the sea. And a large crowd was gathered to Him, so that He entered into the boat in order to sit in the sea. And all the crowd were on the land toward the sea.

Behold, the sower went out to sow.
Ἀκούετε.¶Akouetedo listen!G0191V-PAM-2P ἐξῆλθενexēlthenwent outG1831V-2AAI-3S σπείρωνspeirōnsowingG4687V-PAP-NSM σπεῖραι·speiraito sow;G4687V-AAN 4 And as he sowed, it happened that one indeed fell by the wayside; and the birds of the heaven came and devoured it.
ἐγένετοegenetoit came to passG1096V-2ADI-3S σπείρειν,speireinsowing,G4687V-PAN ἔπεσενepesenfellG4098V-2AAI-3S ὁδόν,hodonroad,G3598N-ASF ἦλθενēlthencameG2064V-2AAI-3S πετεινὰpeteinabirdsG4071N-NPN οὐρανοῦouranouheavenG3772N-GSM κατέφαγενkatephagendevouredG2719V-2AAI-3S 5 And another fell on the stony place where it did not have much earth. And it sprang up at once, due to not having deepness of earth.

And through not having root, it was dried out.

But to these, those outside, all things are being given in parables,

Isa. 6:9, 10

And how will you know all parables?

σπείρωνspeirōnsowingG4687V-PAP-NSM σπείρει.speireisows.G4687V-PAI-3S 15 And these are those by the wayside where the Word is sown. And when they hear, Satan comes at once and takes away the Word having been sown in their hearts.

Then trouble or persecution having occurred through the Word, immediately they are offended.

ἄλλοιalloianotherG0243A-NPM εἰσὶνeisinareG1510V-PAI-3P ἀκάνθαςakanthasthornsG0173N-APF σπειρόμενοι·speiromenoisown;G4687V-PPP-NPM οὗτοίhoutoiTheseG3778D-NPM εἰσινeisinareG1510V-PAI-3P ἀκούσαντες,akousanteshearing,G0191V-AAP-NPM 19 and the cares of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts about other things entering in, they choke the Word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Is it not also that it may be put on the lampstand?

ἐστινestinthere isG1510V-PAI-3S κρυπτόνkruptonhiddenG2927A-NSN φανερωθῇ,phanerōthēait shall be made manifest,G5319V-APS-3S ἐγένετοegenetohas taken placeG1096V-2ADI-3S ἀπόκρυφονapokruphona secret thingG0614A-NSN ἔλθῃelthēit shall comeG2064V-2AAS-3S φανερόν.phaneronlight.G5318A-ASM 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.
ἔχειecheihasG2192V-PAI-3S ἀκούεινakoueinto hearG0191V-PAN ἀκουέτω.¶akouetōhe should hear.G0191V-PAM-3S 24 And He said to them, Be careful what you hear. With what measure you measure, it will be measured to you; and more will be given to you, the ones hearing.

Or with what parable shall we compare it?

κόκκῳkokkōa grainG2848N-DSM σινάπεωςsinapeōsof mustardG4615N-GSN σπαρῇsparēait may be sownG4687V-2APS-3S μικρότερονmikroteronsmaller thanG3398A-NSN-C πάντωνpantōnallG3956A-GPN σπερμάτωνspermatōnseedsG4690GN-GPN τῶνtōnwhich [are]G3588T-GPN 32 And when it is sown, it comes up and becomes greater than all the plants, and produces great branches, so as to enable the birds of the heaven to roost under its shade.

And He explained all things to His disciples privately.

And other small boats also were with Him.

And they awakened Him, and said to Him, Teacher, does it not matter to You that we are perishing?

Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

How do you not have faith?
