Chapter 4
1 And He began again to teach by the seaside. And there was a great crowd gathered to Him, so that He entered into a boat and sat in the sea. And the whole crowd was on the land by the seaside.

And He said to them in His teaching:

Behold, a sower went out to sow.
Ἀκούετε.¶Akouetedo listen!G0191V-PAM-2P ἐξῆλθενexēlthenwent outG1831V-2AAI-3S σπείρωνspeirōnsowingG4687V-PAP-NSM σπεῖραι·speiraito sow;G4687V-AAN 4 And as he sowed, it happened that indeed some fell by the wayside, and the fowls of the air came and ate it up.

And it sprang up at once, due to not having deepness of earth.

And because it had no root, it withered away.

And one bore thirty, and one sixty, and one a hundredfold.

But to those outside, all these things are given in parables

And how then will you know all parables?

σπείρωνspeirōnsowingG4687V-PAP-NSM σπείρει.speireisows.G4687V-PAI-3S 15 And these are those by the wayside, where the Word is sown. And when they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the Word that was sown in their hearts.

Afterward when affliction or persecution arises for the Word's sake, they are immediately offended.

ἄλλοιalloianotherG0243A-NPM εἰσὶνeisinareG1510V-PAI-3P ἀκάνθαςakanthasthornsG0173N-APF σπειρόμενοι·speiromenoisown;G4687V-PPP-NPM οὗτοίhoutoiTheseG3778D-NPM εἰσινeisinareG1510V-PAI-3P ἀκούσαντες,akousanteshearing,G0191V-AAP-NPM 19 and the cares of this world, and the deceit of riches, and the lust about other things entering in, choke the Word, and it becomes unfruitful.
μέριμναιmerimnaicaresG3308N-NPF τούτουtoutouthisG3778D-GSM ἀπάτηapatēdeceitG0539N-NSF πλούτουploutourichesG4149N-GSM λοιπὰloipaother thingsG3062A-APN ἐπιθυμίαιepithumiaidesiresG1939N-NPF εἰσπορευόμεναιeisporeuomenaientering inG1531V-PNP-NPF συμπνίγουσινsumpnigousinthey chokeG4846V-PAI-3P λόγον,logonword,G3056N-ASM ἄκαρποςakarposunfruitfulG0175A-NSM γίνεται.ginetaiit becomes.G1096V-PNI-3S 20 And these are those sown on good ground, who hear the Word and welcome it, and bear fruit, one thirty, one sixty, and one a hundredfold.

ἔχειecheihasG2192V-PAI-3S ἀκούεινakoueinto hearG0191V-PAN ἀκουέτω.¶akouetōhe should hear.G0191V-PAM-3S 24 And He said to them, Take heed what you hear. With that measure which you measure, it shall be measured to you. And to you who hear, more shall be given.

Or by what parable shall we compare it?
ἔλεγεν·elegenHe was saying;G3004GV-IAI-3S ὁμοιώσωμενhomoiōsōmenshall we likenG3666V-AAS-1P βασιλείανbasileiankingdomG0932N-ASF θεοῦtheouof GodG2316N-GSM-T παραβολῇparabolēaparableG3850N-DSF θῶμεν;thōmenlet us presentG5087V-2AAS-1P 31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth.
κόκκῳkokkōa grainG2848N-DSM σινάπεωςsinapeōsof mustardG4615N-GSN σπαρῇsparēait may be sownG4687V-2APS-3S μικρότερονmikroteronsmaller thanG3398A-NSN-C πάντωνpantōnallG3956A-GPN σπερμάτωνspermatōnseedsG4690GN-GPN τῶνtōnwhich [are]G3588T-GPN 32 But when it has been sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out great branches, so as to enable the birds of the air to roost under its shade.

And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.

And there were also other little boats with Him.

And they awakened Him and said to Him, Master, do You not care that we perish?

Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

How is it that you have no faith?
